Chios is well known for being Homer's birthplace and the mastic tree which is used to produce an alcoholic drink and also as a chewing gum. The island is close to the Turkish coast and a regular ferry boat service is available. Chios has some fine beaches and ruins of fine examples of Byzantine history.

- The villages of Kampos, Keramos, Agio Gala, Volissos, Thimiana, Kalamoti, Kardamila and Langada.
- Swimming Beaches: Korfa, Daskalopetra, Mavra Volia, Megas Limonas, Agia Fotini.

- By air from Athens in 50 minutes.
